Unit Supervisor

Purpose

Operate 17 MW Power plant control room and supervise other operators and maintenance personnel on rotating shifts

 

Reports to Plant Manager

Location Westminster, Massachusetts

Status Hourly— Non-Exempt

 

Job Functions:

 

Essential Functions

Observe pressure, temperature, flow and status indications on plant DCS, operate and adjust controls and valves as needed to maintain normal safe operation. Ensure that all operating logs, reports, printers, charts and data loggers are operating and kept current. Obtain vendor submittals for parts and services as directed. Use MP2 software to create work orders and purchase orders as directed and record equipment maintenance and malfunctions. Provide practical training to subordinates; ensure that they are knowledgeable of all duties, plant procedures and policies, system operations and safety practices. Acts as a team member with all employees of GDF SUEZ Energy North America staff. Complies with all GDF SUEZ Energy North America policies and procedures.

 

Other Functions

Ensures that general good housekeeping is maintained and assigned cleaning areas are kept up. In addition to the normal work schedule will be required to work vacation/emergency relief as defined by the shift rotation schedule. Carries out other duties as assigned including maintenance work.

 

Requirements:

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to use hands and arms to touch or feel, and use tools. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; sit; and stoop, kneel, or crouch. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance. The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus. Ability to meet highest attendance requirements. Ability to use personal computer, calculator, familiarity with Microsoft Office products desirable.

 

Education /Experience

This position requires the candidate to possess a current Massachusetts 2nd Class Engineers license. Minimum 4 years power plant experience; High School diploma and six years relevant experience.

Assists Unit Supervisor in operation of 17 MW Wood fired Power plant on rotating shifts.

Job Functions

 

Assists Unit Supervisor in operation and maintenance of steam boiler and auxiliary steam equipment such as pumps, compressors, turbine, and generator by performing the following duties:

 

·         Report equipment problems that jeopardize plant operations or safety to the unit supervisor so that work request can be completed.

 

·         Ensure plant operating logs are kept current; Inform plant management of equipment in need of repair, or conditions out of normal.

 

·         Operate auxiliary equipment; Open & close valves; Clean and lubricate pumps compressors and conveyors.

 

·         Operate demineralizers, test and treat boiler and cooling tower water as directed.

 

·         Perform maintenance tasks as directed.

 

·         Operate wood yard equipment and computer system as needed.

 

·         Clean designated work areas using brooms mops and buffers.

 

 

Other Functions    

 

In addition to the normal work schedule will be required to work vacation/emergency relief as defined by the shift rotation schedule.

 

Carries out other duties as assigned.

Ability to meet highest attendance required.

 

Ability to use personal computer, calculator, familiarity with Microsoft Office products desirable.

 

 

Education /Experience

 

This position requires the candidate to possess a current Massachusetts 2nd or 1st class Fireman’s License, or the ability to obtain a 2nd class fireman’s license within six months of hire date.

 

High school diploma is required.

 

Industrial operations experience preferred

            Outdoors – 20%

           

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to moving mechanical parts and vibration.  The employee is frequently exposed to airborne particles and heat.  The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; high, precarious places; toxic or caustic chemicals; and outside weather conditions.  The noise level in the work environment is very loud. Personal protection equipment is required.
